Tesla Introduces Optimus Gen 2 Humanoid Robot in Demo Video.

On December 13, 2023, Tesla unveiled its latest humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2, through an impressive demo video. This prototype boasts notable improvements, being 30% faster, 10 kg lighter, and equipped with sensors on all fingers. The unveiling follows over a year since Tesla's initial Optimus robot demonstration, which featured less refined models.

In the demo video, Optimus Gen 2 is showcased performing various tasks, including walking, crouching, delicately manipulating objects like eggs without breakage, and waving its arms. The key features highlighted in the video include Tesla-designed actuators and sensors, a 2-DoF actuated neck, integrated electronics and harnessing in actuators, a 30% increase in walk speed, foot force/torque sensing, articulated toe sections, human foot geometry, a 10 kg weight reduction, improved balance and full-body control, faster 11-DoF hands, and tactile sensing on all fingers.

Despite these advancements, it's crucial to note that Optimus Gen 2 is currently a non-production prototype, not intended for sale. Elon Musk envisions it as a potential replacement for human labor, designed to mimic human size and shape seamlessly. However, the timeline for realizing this vision remains uncertain, contingent on overcoming engineering challenges. If the video accurately represents the robot's capabilities, Tesla appears to be making substantial progress toward its ambitious goal…… I will follow up on this topic…;)
